About Sue
A pioneering journalist, Sue Lloyd-Roberts worked at both ITN and the BBC. She was renowned for her courageous, uncompromising reporting that gave a voice to the voiceless.
Sue died in October 2015, yet her inspiring legacy lives on through several projects that promote journalism, women and human rights.

The Sue Lloyd-Roberts Scholarship

The Sue-Lloyd Roberts Scholarship is offered to postgraduate students at the University of Cardiff’s Journalism Media and Cultural Studies. Candidates are chosen for their interest in international affairs, human rights or the environment, and are expected to undertake a project related to these themes during the course.
The War on Women
Sue’s book The War on Women is a breath-taking and visceral narrative, interweaving the real-life experiences of the heroines combating gross inequality. It is an examination of how women are treated across the globe: from the pay gap in the UK and the laundries in Ireland, to gender discrimination in Saudi Arabia and female genital mutilation in Africa.

The Sue Lloyd Roberts Media Award

The Sue Lloyd Roberts Media Award: “For outstanding work of a journalist or producer whose reporting has promoted the protection needs of refugee, asylum seeking or migrant women, either in the UK or abroad.”
The Women on the Move Award has worked to recognize the work of journalists and producers whose reporting accurately and powerfully communicates the protection needs of refugee, asylum-seeking or migrant women, either in the UK or abroad. The Media Award was re-named after Sue Lloyd-Roberts whose work epitomised the journalistic values of objectivity and integrity.
The Sue Lloyd-Roberts Memorial Lecture
Oxford’s St Hilda’s College, has announced an annual memorial lecture dedicated to journalism and human rights in honour of Sue, who studied there between 1970 and 1973.
The Sue Lloyd-Roberts Memorial Lecture’s first event will be on the 26th April 2017, and has the pleasure of receiving Director General of the BBC Lord Hall of Birkenhead as its first speaker.
